BAFTA Screening of Christmas Karma Movie by Gurinder Chadha
On 14th November 2025, Dr R. Sri Ram, Founder and Chair of the UK-India Creative Circle (UKICC), attended an exclusive screening of Christmas Karma Movie at BAFTA in London. The event brought together members of the film, production, music and creative industries to shine a spotlight on the British film industry and the contribution of South Asian culture to it.
“Film and the adjacent industries associated with it: production, costume, set-design, lighting, sound, music, casting, directing, dance, and acting, are all important areas of the creative industry to support and shine a spotlight on. Film is an integral part of British and Indian culture, and is worth billions to each economy. However, what struck me most was that Gurinder Chadha, who is a stalwart in film and movie direction, had to bring to life this movie on a shoe-string budget. Her open and honest discourse around the difficulties around funding the movie, highlighted why supporting business generating opportunities, through the UKICC is critical,” said Dr. Sri.
Also in attendance was Hugh Bonneville who is cast in the movie.
The movie was based on the Charles Dicken’s novel “A Christmas Carol” and the “Ghosts of Christmas” with a strong connection to the Indian community from Uganda who migrated to the UK in the 1970s and 1980s.
